I spent my childhood and early days of youth in Slavonia, a region that is my native land, and the native land of my parents and my grandparents. In front of the house I used to live in, in Osijek, there is a lovely park which, at its northern perimeter, merges with the bank of the river Drava. The vicinity of the river could be felt in my backyard and even inside the house. One could feel a characteristic scent which changed with the changing of the seasons and which was most exciting in early fall or, more precisely, from mid September to mid October. That is when the river is clear and smooth and the scent of it fresh.
